Frequently Asked Questions – Air Tours

HOW EARLY SHOULD I ARRIVE TO CHECK IN?

Please arrive at the seaplane base 15 minutes before your flight so that you can check in with our reservations desk, use the facilities, and meet your pilot.

IS THERE A MINIMUM NUMBER OF PASSENGERS?

We require a 2 person minimum in the aircraft on all Air Tours before we will fly.

IS THERE A WEIGHT LIMIT?

For passenger comfort and FAA weight & balance procedures, we limit individual passenger weight to 250lbs.

SHOULD WE TIP OUR PILOT?

Please tip your pilot if you feel like he/she has done a great job for you.

WILL WE BE THE ONLY ONES IN THE AIRPLANE? HOW IS SEATING ARRANGED?

Unless you charter the complete airplane you may be sharing the flight with other guests. We try to seat couples and families side-by-side as much as possible. We cannot guarantee particular seating as it is often dictated by our FAA approved “weight and balance” program. However, visibility from every seat is excellent and everyone gets a window seat and noise cancelling headset.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Dress exactly as you would to be outside the day that you fly. The air is always a bit cooler up at flying altitude so if it’s a warm day then it will be more comfortable up high. If you’re flying on a cooler day then bring a jacket just in case. There are heaters in the airplanes, but everyone’s temperature preference is a little bit different so bring long sleeves if you tend to be cold. Closed toe shoes are recommended.

HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE WILL MY PILOT HAVE?

All of our pilots are required to pass all Federal Aviation Administration tests as well as our own stringent flight training before flying for us. They are all trained in Mountain flying and are re-trained yearly to ensure proficiency.

DO WE GET A REFUND IF THE WEATHER IS INCLEMENT?

Weather is always hard to estimate especially when you’re planning weeks or months in advance. We will advise you in advance if we feel the weather will make it unsafe to fly. If we need to cancel your flight, you will receive a full refund or get priority re-booking.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO FLY?

The best times to fly are mornings and afternoon. Overcast skies=calm skies. Don’t let a cloud on your smartphone weather app deter you from flying on a particular day!

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

“Air Tours” not cancelled within 48 hours of reservation time will be charged full price. If we need to cancel due to inclement weather, you will not be charged. You will receive priority re-booking. If you need to change the date or time of your tour we will collect $25 per seat handling fee.

“Fly & Dine” flights have a 7 day cancellation policy. Please respect that we have made reservations on your behalf into private sporting camps in the Maine Wilderness. These camps will need to plan in advance for their grocery list requirements. If you need to change the date or time of your tour we will collect $25 per seat handling fee.

“Private Charter & Fly-Out Fishing” trips have a 7 day cancellation policy. Please respect that we have reserved an entire aircraft for multiple days or a day for your party. Cancellations more than 7 days from departure date will receive an 80% refund.
